Mohsin Hamid’s third venture is distinctly penned from his debut, and the only other work of his that I’ve read, Moth Smoke.
The Good: Although, the second-person perspective is a challenging mode of narrative to read, Mr. Hamid was able to achieve uniqueness through its usage. The writing style’s comprised entirely of satire, and where sarcasm is concerned, it’s simply unputdownable from start to finish.
The Bad: Still, the level of predictability was a bit high; a negative aspect that, in my opinion, is also shared by Moth Smoke.
The Verdict: All in all, Mr. Hamid’s power lies in his craft of storytelling, and despite the plot being a tad on the generic side, the overall goal of this novel was reached, and that is, telling a bittersweet tale with as much humor as possible.
