Q1. Sarah, it’s wonderful to have you with us for this Q&A. Please tell us about your humble beginnings as a visual storyteller.
Thank you for having me. I began watching horror movies at an early age. I saw John Carpenter’s Halloween when I was 6 and fell in love with horror movies. At the age of 12 I started writing screenplays in the horror genre and when I was around 15 or 16 I knew I wanted to become a filmmaker. I have since then written/directed and acted in a lot of short films and feature films, I am most known for my own short film such as Mimes, Rotten Love and Create Your Killer and my feature revenge film Sargad (Wounded). Create Your Killer is my latest horror comedy which is available to watch on my YouTube channel here.
Since I’ve always loved watching horror movies, I’ve always loved talking about them and me and my best friend Jasmine Martinez decided to start our YouTube channel Bitches of Horror back in 2015 where we review horror movies and interview filmmakers in the horror genre. Unfortunately due to the pandemic we haven’t been able to see each other much so we haven’t been so active with our channel as of lately. That is why I started my own YouTube channel called Sarah of Horror, where I only review horror movies from my own collection and I have about 3000+ DVDs and Blu-rays, so there is a lot to choose from.
Q2. Which well-known creative personalities have influenced your storytelling the most?
As for my filmmaking I would have to say Dario Argento, as for when I first started my YouTube Channel I wasn’t really influenced by anyone in particular, I just wanted to talk about horror movies, but I have loved watching channels like Bedtime Stories, Most Amazing Top 10, etc. I follow some YouTubers that review horror movies like Art with Horror and he does inspire me a lot.
Q3. Any advice for aspiring visual storytellers/YouTubers?
If you are an aspiring filmmaker then my advice is to just go out and start creating movies, no matter if you don’t have any budget or experience, anything is a learning experience and we all have to start from somewhere. If you are an aspiring Youtuber my advice is to find something that you’re really passionate about, to find your own niche and then start filming.
Q4. What are your hobbies?
I of course love watching movies and going to the cinema, I used to be at the cinema a lot before the pandemic happened. I also have a cat called JD, she is 9 months old and I love spending time with her. She has watched a lot of horror movies with me haha.
Q5. Tell us about your upcoming projects.
I have an upcoming feature film which is in pre-production called Create Your Killer Again which is the sequel to Create Your Killer and I have a few other film projects planned as well. I also have a few new ideas for my YouTube channel and if you aren’t familiar with my channel I can tell you a few things about it. As I mentioned earlier I only review horror movies from my collection and I also have a new theme each month. In December I had Christmas Horror Madness where I reviewed Christmas themed horror movies. In January I had something called Slashuary, where I reviewed 80’s slasher movies. Right now is Valentine’s Massacre, where I review horror movies centered around love. Besides horror reviews I also have unboxing videos where I show you which new movies I’ve bought, collection videos, where I show horror editions from my collection. I have Q&A videos, where I answer questions from my viewers and as I said before I am always thinking about new things to add to my channel.
